Multiculturalism and the Humanities

Various meanings of multiculturalism are distinguished and defined in order to focus on multiculturalism as a normative desideratum of a socially contextualised humanities in which the significance of cultural diversity is appropriated and the value of cultural differences is promoted consciously and critically. Various approaches towards this purpose are discussed and evaluated.
