Integrating Metaphorical Cues to Enhance Learner Conceptual Frameworks of Understanding within Web-based Academic Coursework

Dr. Caroline M. Crawford.

The rapid growth of Web-based learning environments, commonly referred to as eLearning, has only recently focused attention upon the affective and modal learning cues that are apparent and rampant within traditional learning environments. One such learning environment enhancement is the introduction of a metaphor to be integrated through out the learning environment. As such, the metaphorical cues directly enhance the learner’s ability to conceptualize and further aid the learner’s understanding of the knowledge within the eLearning environment. Further, the integration of metaphorical cues into the eLeanring environment enhances the learner’s ability to create constructivist webs of understanding within previously created understandings of knowledge and information, which further enhances the learner’s ability to strive towards levels of higher order thinking skills such as analysis, evaluation, and synthesis.
