Intercountry Adoption : Other Narrative Truths

Kirsten Lovelock.

Drawing on a multi-sited study of inter-country adoptees’ from Hong Kong who migrated in the 1960s for adoption into families in New Zealand, Canada and the United States this paper critically explores inter-country adoption as a practice. The dominance of the ‘politics of identity’ rhetoric in both popular representations and the research record is explored in terms of the silences that are generated and the inequities that are perpetuated.
